“There was a child went forth every day and the first object he looked upon and received with wonder or pity or love or dread, that object he became, and that object became a part of him for the day or a certain part of the day…or for many years or stretching cycles of years.” — Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass

From the Afterword

This book is for those individuals who spent their childhood, or some part of it, on the family farm. Individuals who may want—as I do on occasion—a doorway back to that time, enough of a doorway, at least, that with a little imagination they can revisit the stories and places of their own childhood. My hope is that this book serves that purpose, and more generally, perhaps, that it offers an opportunity to reflect on the nature of one’s childhood whenever and wherever it occurred. — David Thomas, PhD
“When your beautiful book first arrived I read through it dazzled by the photos. I still think this is the most beautiful photography I have ever seen, certainly worthy of a gallery showing.  The way you use light and shadow and reflections sings, evoking something deeply emotional.  …Yesterday, while trying to clear off my desk, I took the time to reread the book, this time slowly and carefully.  Once again it touched me. Thank you for this beautiful, beautiful book.” — Ocoee Miller
